Teeth Whitening FAQ’s

How long does teeth whitening take?

The teeth whitening procedure usually involves two 15 minute sessions. This is to allow maximum gel-exposure without bathing your teeth in the whitening gel for too long at a time (which can cause sensitivity)

How long do the results last?

On average, teeth whitening lasts about 6 months. However, lifestyle choices can make whitening results last even longer (or fade even quicker). In order to prolong the effectiveness of your teeth whitening results, avoid foods and beverages that are known to stain your teeth  such as coffee, tea and wine. When possible use a straw, and always remember to brush (or at the very  least, rinse) 30 minutes after eating.

Are the results noticeable?

Yes! Teeth whitening produces drastically whiter teeth in as little as a single visit. Some patients with extensive staining might require additional treatment (or touch-ups further down the road). For most patients, an improvement between 6 and 12 shades can be expected.

Can I get my teeth whitened if I have sensitive teeth?

Different teeth whitening systems have different results. If you experience tooth sensitivity, be sure to mention it to your dentist. Most patients, even those who report sensitivity in the past, experience very minor issues with sensitivity. By working to prevent contact to the gums or over-bleaching, we actively work to prevent any occurrence of uncomfortable sensitivity. On top of this, we can also provide our patients with special pastes or gels to help minimize sensitivity even more.
